Brand-New Topographics

The Hub

Location 1 – The Hub – Robert Frank
‘I have been frequently accused of deliberately twisting subject matter to my point of view. Above all, I know that life for a photographer cannot be a matter of indifference. Opinion often consists of a kind of criticism… it is important to see what is invisible to others.’
Photography can express the point of view of the photographer, despite him / her not being present in the image. The viewpoint being that individual’s act differently in a sports environment and the camera then depicts situation, aided by the photographer. Robert Frank is known for taking photographs that show hope and sadness, linking to the American dream. With my photographs, people show their intimidation of the situation, linking in with some of Franks work in, ‘The Americans’, but it also adds an alternative that people are competing to be seen more positively, therefore showing the situation is two-sided.
